2020 Board of Directors Candidates

The Board of Directors and Nominating Committee are very excited to present this slate of well-qualified and enthusiastic candidates  for four Board of Directors positions for the 2020-2022 term! All chapter members are invited to vote for the candidates they feel will best serve in these roles. An election ballot link will be emailed to the address on record in your account profile.

Director of Professional Development & Programs

Oversees and aligns the chapter's programming function with member interests and the ATD competency models and definitions, including responsibility for topic/speaker selection, venue selection, and overall meeting management and reporting.


Lori Bond

Lori Bond is a senior talent development executive and consultant. She helps organizations by creating impactful talent development strategies and experiences. Lori is currently the Vice President of Talent Development at Advisor Group where she creates, transforms, and launches robust learning and development programs that elevate employee skills. She advocates for continuous professional development by leveraging innovative learning technologies and engaging design, so people want to be part of these learning experiences.

Before her work at Advisor Group, she spent 20 years working to help print and manufacturing organizations transition into technology companies. Working to help transform these organizations and upskill their talented employees gave Lori the opportunity to incorporate change strategies into the development projects to increase employee engagement and retention. To support these organizations' success, she built high-performing teams by fostering a work environment that values creativity, insight, and collaboration.

Lori earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s degree in adult learning. She is a member of the ATD book club and just recently added their conference in Las Vegas.

Lori knows it would be an honor to work with the ATD VOS Team as the Director of Professional Development and Programs. Using 25 years of talent development experience, she plans to work with the board and members to determine our topics of interest and plan an engaging two years of speakers with learning opportunities that connect with the needs of today’s organizations and employees. The goal is to offer timely and engaging experiences to our members to ensure they get the most of their membership to ATD VOS.

Betty Chan

Betty Chan acquired her Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University in Human Resource and Political Science; and Masters of Organizational Development and Leadership from Saint Joseph’s University. She has been in the Human Resource field since 2001 and has made it her career!

Over the years, Betty has held various positions within the spectrum of Human Resources. These positions included Human Resources Generalist and Human Resources Management, mainly in the health care arena. Currently, she is a Human Resources Advisor at Mayo Clinic working collaboratively with hospital leaders and supporting Radiology, Primary Care, Women’s Health and Environmental Services.

In the past, Betty volunteered for Society for Human Resources Management Greater Phoenix (SHRMGP) and most recently volunteered with Arizona Organization Development Network (AzODN) focusing on pro bono project for a non-profit organization here in the valley.

In her spare time, Betty enjoys traveling and different ethnic foods. She loves audiobooks on leadership and organizational management.

Director of Marketing & Communications

Oversees activities related to communication among the chapter members at large, and communication with the community and other professional associations. Additionally, this position oversees activities related to marketing of chapter initiatives.


Brittney Helt

Brittney Helt is a communications professional focused on growing others and their businesses through her role as the Director of Customer Success at TTI Success Insights. At TTI SI, she is passionate about helping people realize their human potential through research-backed assessment tools, coaching, and learning as well as being an integral part of their annual People-First International Conference.

A self-proclaimed L&D nerd, her affinity for the talent development industry was ignited after being introduced to ATD through the Central Indiana Chapter (CIC) over a decade ago. She began volunteering for ATD-CIC through their annual conference, eventually becoming the director and rebranding the event (which now attracts more than 200 learning professionals each year) to the Learning Summit.  Brittney helped the chapter through the transition of ASTD to ATD as an active board member, leading the chapter’s Marketing and Communication efforts for three years. During her tenure, she was in charge of the design and implementation of a website reboot using Wild Apricot, the design, creation, and distribution of their monthly newsletter, social media content creation, and overall communications strategy and implementation.

Brittney earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Telecommunications News from the College of Communications at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. You can learn more about Brittney at .

Jennifer Staats

Jennifer Staats is the North American Sales Training Manager at Coloplast, where she leads the training program for the Wound and Skin Division; including development, design, and execution of training. Additionally, Jennifer collaborates with marketing and communications to create a training curriculum, as well as, activities for various meetings.

Before sales training, Jennifer was a sales and marketing representative for 15 years in both pharmaceutical and medical device industries. Throughout Jennifer's career, she has accomplished multiple sales awards, including top performer in 2001, Rising Star in 2004, Winner's Circle in 2005, Vaccine Sales Training Fish Award in 2008 and Champions Club in 2017.

Recently, Jennifer completed her MBA and due to her performance is now a part of the International Academic Honor Society in Business Delta Mu Delta. She is also a part of the Golden Key Honor Society, Kappa Delta Phi International Society, and Phi Delta Kappa Professional Fraternity.

Jennifer loves the outdoors and enjoys hiking, bike riding, sand volleyball, working out and stay active. She is an animal lover and has 4 dogs.

Jennifer's vast experience in sales, marketing, and overall communications makes her a strong candidate for this position. Moreover, Jennifer’s out of the box thinking and leadership abilities will help to strengthen and grow the ATD Valley of the Sun Chapter.

Director of Membership

Manages the overall membership function of the chapter, including the design and implementation of programs that broaden membership engagement, increasing membership by an identified goal, and retaining current members.


Martyn Whitby

Martyn Whitby is a Strategic Account Executive at OpenSesame, an educational technology company that provides an online marketplace for buying and selling SCORM e-learning courses focused primarily on employee training.

For the last 14 years, Martyn has worked with L&D professionals to provide e-learning courses for their training priorities.  His clients have ranged from 100 person start-ups, to Global 2000 companies. His tenured experience has helped Martyn become acquainted with many members and potential members of the local ATD chapter and audience. Martyn hopes to parlay his network connections into opportunities to build and engage chapter membership and enhance member experience.

Martyn studied E-Learning and Instructional Design at Rio Solado Community College, and Entrepreneurship at Mt. Hood Community College.  He is passionate about measuring the impact of training and proving results, and excited about the prospects of taking ATD VOS membership to new levels!

Identifies, implements, and maintains website content and features, as well as other technologies that will support Board goals and improve member services.


Breanna White

Breanna White is a 2015 Texas A&M University graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Development. Bre currently works remotely from Chandler, AZ, as a Training Technologist & Project Manager for C&A Industries Inc. based out of Omaha, NE. In this ever evolving role, Bre primarily serves as LMS system administrator, is in charge of creating e-learning content (videos, quizzes, captivates, etc...), and conducts training evaluations for all grants and applications on behalf of the learning and development team.

Bre has successfully obtained 9 workplace grants and most recently acquired the Training Top 125 and ATD BEST 2019 awards for the Learning & Development Team of C&A Industries.

“I believe that technology, when used properly, can help execute project plans that make a strategic impact to workplace teams in support of business goals; making a difference is my motivator. Technology in the workplace is only going to become more and more prominent in our day to day workplace; understanding and leveraging this potential is a must to stay competitive in today’s workforce.”

By day, Bre lives and breaths all things technology, social media, and learning innovation; however by night, Bre is a yoga instructor, enjoys cooking up new recipes, and spending time at the park with her son and husband.
