About the CPLP Designation

Have you considered elevating your talents and skills by becoming a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) or an Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD)?

Based on the Association for Talent Development (ATD) competency model*, the CPLP  and APTD are esteemed credentials provided to talent development professionals who successfully complete the requirements. The preparation is an intense process that takes several months and has many benefits:

  • Build and validate skills
  • Increase earning potential
  • Differentiate yourself in a competitive market
  • Broaden career opportunities
  • Join an elite professional community
* Note:

The ATD Competency model is changing after May 2020 which will change the requirements of the CPLP. If you started studying for the CPLP prior to 2020, take the exam NOW.

How is the APTD Different?

The APTD designation is intended for those early in their career with three to five years of experience in talent development. The primary focus of the APTD is around three areas of expertise: training delivery, instructional design and learning technologies. Evaluating learning impact and the foundational competency of Global Mindset are also included in questions. For more information, access the ATD website.

Winter 2020 CPLP Study Group

Having a support system during your preparation can be extremely beneficial for your success. The ATD Valley of the Sun Chapter (ATD VOS) partners with several other chapters to offer a virtual study group to support both the CPLP and the APTD.

The study group is free to members of the ATD VOS chapter. Otherwise it is $50 for CPLP and $25 for APTD candidates.
