Two benchmark studies provide estimates of how serious the problem is. In 2004, Rob Brinkerhoff, professor at Western Michigan University, found that approximately 20% of participants never attempt to apply what they learn in a training program and another 65% try to apply what they learned but soon revert back to their old ways. That equates to an 85% scrap learning figure!
More recently KnowledgeAdvisors, a Corporate Executive Board (CEB) company reported that in the average organization 45% of all delivered training is not applied.
