 Managing the Monsoon

  January 2022 Focus

During the January Instructional Design SIG, we'll help to guide an interactive conversation around training requests.

Assuming that 'training' is the answer to the problem...

  • What are some of the best ways to take in training requests?  Some of the worst ways?

  • Which tech tools have helped you manage training requests?

  • How do you identify the scope of the training when receiving a request?

  • How do you define the expected competency level that the learners will reach after completing the training?

  • What information do you capture about its target learning audience?
  • What are the best ways to gather existing content and information?
  • How to manage timelines and expedited requests?
  • What tips can you share about prioritizing training requests?
  • And more related ideas!

What is the group?

In our Instructional Design Special Interest Group, we will focus on the Instructional Design capability of ATD's Talent Development Capability Model™.  Each session will have a focused topic, but we welcome a diverse and organic discussion that may lead to other brilliant ideas.  The ATD VOS Instructional Design SIG will meet every other month through early 2022.

Who can attend?

All learning, development, and talent professionals are welcome to join--whether you're just starting to develop your first official course or you're a seasoned expert who uses SAM.

How does ATD define 'instructional design?'

Instructional design is an essential element of an effective learning effort. The creation of learning experiences and materials is what results in the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills. Talent development professionals follow a system of assessing needs, designing a process, developing materials, and evaluating effectiveness. Instructional design requires the analysis and selection of the most appropriate strategies, methodologies, and technologies to maximize the learning experience and knowledge transfer.
