 Powering Up E-Learning with Stories

  March 2022 Focus

During the March Instructional Design SIG, we'll help to guide an interactive conversation around integrating storytelling into e-learning courses.

  • How have you successfully integrated stories into a course?

  • Which storytelling method is most effective for specific use cases?  Scenarios?  Case studies?  Testimonials?  SMEs' stories?

  • In which ways have you used media to make your stories the most meaningful?

  • How do you gather impactful stories?

  • How do you keep stories relevant for the learner as our world is changing so quickly?

  • Do you prefer a single, impactful story or several stories that overlap & relate to one another?

  • How have you measured the effectiveness of a story in driving to a behavior change or learning outcome?

  • And more related ideas!

What is the group?

In our Instructional Design Special Interest Group, we will focus on the Instructional Design capability of ATD's Talent Development Capability Model™.  Each session will have a focused topic, but we welcome a diverse and organic discussion that may lead to other brilliant ideas.  The ATD VOS Instructional Design SIG will meet every other month through early 2022.

Who can attend?

All learning, development, and talent professionals are welcome to join--whether you're just starting to develop your first official course or you're a seasoned expert who uses SAM.

How does ATD define 'instructional design?'

Instructional design is an essential element of an effective learning effort. The creation of learning experiences and materials is what results in the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills. Talent development professionals follow a system of assessing needs, designing a process, developing materials, and evaluating effectiveness. Instructional design requires the analysis and selection of the most appropriate strategies, methodologies, and technologies to maximize the learning experience and knowledge transfer.
