Career Portfolios - No Longer an Option,
But a Requirement

Dr. Greg WilliamsDescription: A workplace training professional needs a career portfolio to communicate and demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities in ways that a resume cannot.  Portfolios offer a unique way to distinguish yourself from other workplace learning and performance professionals.  Portfolios are now starting to become required for many jobs and promotions.  Don’t get caught unprepared!

In this session you will learn about career portfolios that will give you a competitive advantage in a challenging job market.

Learning Outcomes:  At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Discuss how portfolio artifacts help achieve measurable business results
  • Link career accomplishments to established ASTD Areas of Expertise
  • Create an electronic portfolio without learning complicated software
  • Explain how to use a career portfolio in the job search and interview process
  • Describe your accomplishments in way ways that non-learning professionals will understand
  • Draft a brief personal action plan to design and develop a career portfolio

Program Fees:
Members Cost: $25
Student Member Cost: $15
Non-Members Cost: $40

Definition of member: If you are a member of ASTD National, but you are not a member of the ASTD Valley of the Sun chapter, you are a non-member ($40). If you are member of the ASTD Valley of the Sun chapter, you are a member ($25).

About the presenter:

Dr. Greg WilliamsDr. Greg Williams has over 20 years experience as teacher, an instructional designer, eLearning developer, trainer, university professor and consultant.  He has taught at the graduate, undergraduate and K-12 levels.

He is the Director of Instructional Systems Development graduate program for University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).  He also serves a faculty member in the program and holds the rank of Associate Professor.  Dr. Williams has taught over 75 online courses in the last eight years and has been a frequent invited presenter at numerous national conferences on instructional design and eLearning.

Dr. Williams completed his B.A and M.S. at The State University of New York, at Plattsburgh.  He completed his doctorate at The George Washington University.  More information can be found at www.gregwilliams.net
