Game-based Learning: To Play or Not to Play

How to make a payment without using Paypal: When you get to the part in Paypal that says "do you want to create an account?" click “no” and then it will say “pay now”.  This allows you to pay without needing to create an account in PayPal.

NOTE: Lunch is provided.

Description: In this four part presentation with a learning activity, we will cover:
1. What is this Game Stuff?
2. Why Game-Based Learning in Corporate Workforce Development
3. Measuring Performance Impact: Can Serious GamesStack Up?
4. Mobile and Knowledge Learning Games

Participants will have the opportunity to play an interactive mobile game in a friendly competitive environment.

Audience Level: Trainers, Instructional Designers, Program Managers

Learners will:

  • Understand the role of gamification in training and learning.
  • Understand the key differentiators of gamification
  • Understand the business fit and ROI impact of gamification
  • Practice using current gaming technology
In addition to the objectives above, the ASTD Competencies that will be emphasized in this program are the following:

 

ASTD T&D Areas of Expertise: Evaluating Learning Impact, Instructional Design,Learning Technologies, Training Delivery

ASTD Foundational Competencies: Technology Literacy

 

Program Fees:

Members Cost: $25 (must login to get the discount rate)
Student Member Cost: $15 (must login to get the discount rate) 

Non-Members Cost: $40

Definition of member: If you are a member of ASTD National, but you are not a member of the ASTD Valley of the Sun chapter, you are a non-member ($40). If you are member of the ASTD Valley of the Sun chapter, you are a member ($25).

Note: Due to the secure nature of the location, attendees will need to present a photo ID at the guard booth to enter the campus.You will be presented with a visitor's badge inside the building.

Parking: Limited visitor parking is available in front of the building. Other surface level parking is available throughout the campus.

About the presenter:

Carol Clark photoCarol Clark has over 25 years of successful Sales/Sales Management experience in training/software/computer and web related industries. Background includes teaching in both the public and private sectors, working with adolescents and adult learners. Ms. Clark has also designed and developed course materials and conducted workshops for clients on topics ranging from blended learning, total quality management tools, team process improvement and solution selling. In addition to teaching, facilitation, and course development her experience includes sales and sales management, project management training and development consulting and speaking at national conferences including ASTD. Ms. Clark holds degrees in Education (BS) from NMSU and Business Administration (MBA) from Pepperdine University.


Cancellation Policy: The registration fee is non-refundable unless ASTD VOS decides to cancel the event due to an unforeseen reason.
