Tools, Technology & Techniques: Adobe Captivate 7 in a Nutshell 

NOTE: Lunch is provided.

Description: ASTD Valley of the Sun presents a comprehensive 2-hour workshop, to introduce participants to Adobe Captivate 7. During this interactive session, participants will learn how to create highly engaging eLearning demonstrations and simulations using Captivate. Participants will also learn how to create interactive assessments and publish to a variety of platforms. Lastly, participants will learn Instructional Design techniques to take advantage of the core features to build customized learning solutions.

Audience Level: This workshop is designed for anyone interested in learning about Adobe Captivate 7. No matter if you are new to developing e-learning courseware, or if you are just expanding your repertoire of tools, this comprehensive workshop will help increase your current understanding of the features of Captivate in order to design interactive, visually appealing e-learning applications.

Learners will:

  • Learn what's new in Captivate 7
  • Learn how to create a project from scratch
  • Learn how to create a project from PowerPoint
  • Learn how to record simulations and demonstrations
  • Learn how to create interactive assessments
  • Learn how to publish a project

During this interactive session, there will be hands-on activities and opportunities to work collaboratively in a positive learning environment.

This is a BYOD workshop; meaning participants should “Bring Their Own Device” to participate. It is also helpful if participants have the following:

  • Adobe Captivate 7, you can download a free trial from Adobe's website. (Other versions of Captivate are acceptable.)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, 2010, or 2011

In addition to the objectives above, the ASTD Competencies that will be emphasized in this program are the following:

ASTD Foundational Competencies: Technology Literacy

Definition of member: If you are a member of ASTD National, but you are not a member of the ASTD Valley of the Sun chapter, you are a non-member ($40). If you are member of the ASTD Valley of the Sun chapter, you are a member ($25).

About the presenter:

Quicy ConleyDr. Quincy Conley is currently an assistant professor at Boise State University in the Organizational Performance & Workplace Learning (OPWL) department. He recently earned his Ph.D. degree in Educational Technology from Arizona State University. Quincy’s educational background also includes a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Science, and his master’s degree in Instructional Design & Technology from the University of North Dakota.

 

Prior to joining the OPWL department, Quincy has worked as a dedicated instructional designer, courseware developer, and project manager for over 12 years. His primary functions have been to decide what combination of appropriate Instructional Design techniques to use to create instructional materials to fulfill organizational goals. Quincy’s expertise lies in designing curriculum for delivery using simulation training, web-based instruction, and e-learning. His professional philosophy is to responsibly develop instructional materials consistent with sound educational principles. He has honed his craft while working as an instructional designer in industries such as health care, financial, engineering, technology, and sales.
