Designing and Facilitating Performance-Based Diversity Training

Program Overview

This highly interactive session will help participants become more effective at implementing diversity training that has a direct impact on individual and organizational performance. By the end of this session, participants will be able to describe the 8 primary diversity competencies, identify their strengths and weaknesses in each of these competency areas, and employ specific training tools and methodologies that will enhance employee development and performance in each of the competency areas.

Audience Level

Trainers, Instructional Designers, Program Managers


Participants will:


  • Identify and describe 8 diversity competencies that have a significant impact on one’s ability to effectively communicate, resolve conflict, solve problems and improve performance in diverse organizational settings.

  • Identify their current strengths and weaknesses in each of these competency areas.

  • Describe specific training tools and methodologies that can be used to enhance employee development and performance in each of the 8 competency areas.

  • Apply two lesson plans to facilitate performance-based diversity training.

  • Use a diversity intervention model to identify specific training interventions that will enhance diversity awareness, knowledge and skills.

Interactivity:

This will be a highly interactive session with 3 activities that facilitate significant audience involvement.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Tyrone A. Holmes, Ed.D, CPT, is an author, speaker, coach and consultant. He received his Bachelors degree in Rehabilitation Education and Masters Degree in Counselor Education from Penn State University. He received a second Masters degree in Business Management from the State University of New York before earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in his Counselor Education doctoral program at Penn State. 


Dr. Holmes has held professional and managerial positions in both higher education and the financial services industry. He served as a corporate Human Resource Manager for Amerisure Companies, where he worked extensively in the areas of team building and human resource development. He also served on the faculty at Eastern Michigan University in the Department of Leadership and Counseling, and Wayne State University in the Department of Theoretical and Behavioral Foundations. He has designed and facilitated numerous workshops, self-assessment inventories and performance improvement programs for thousands of participants in business and industry, city and state government, higher education and K-12 education. Such programs and instruments have included CONNECTIONS: A Multicultural Communication System, CONNECTIONS for Customers, The Empowering Diversity Inventory, the Empowering Diversity Audit and the Communication and Work Style Inventory. Dr. Holmes has also facilitated numerous diversity and multicultural communication sessions for the regional, national and international conferences of the Society for Human Resource Management, the National Career Development Association, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the American College Personnel Association, the Michigan Counseling Association, the Michigan Career Development Association, the Michigan College Personnel Association and the International Coach Federation (Phoenix, Tucson, San Antonio and North Texas chapters).
