Using Media to Engage and Teach

How to make a payment without using Paypal: When you get to the part in Paypal that says "do you want to create an account?" click “no” and then it will say “pay now”.  This allows you to pay without needing to create an account in PayPal.

Program Overview

In this session, we will examine tips, techniques, and best practices for successfully using several media to engage and teach that even the novice can use. Please note this is a BYOL session. 

Audience Level

Novice to intermediate instructional designers and developers

1.The basics of using Sparkol Video Scribe, GoAnimate, Plotagon, Adobe Voice, and Edynco Learning Maps

2. Examples of when to use each

3. How to identify when multimedia usage is appropriate

About the Presenter:

Yuna Buhrman has been in the e-learning field for 15 years, working at such places as ThomsonNetG and Pearson. Her roles have ranged from instructional designer to project team leader. Recently, she managed the search, purchase, and implementation of an LMS for an international non-profit organization. Yuna fuses cutting edge technology with sound instructional principles to create engaging “sticky” learning content. Her goal is to maximize the learner’s ROI on their time and effort. Working with offshore international teams has given her a global perspective on design and collaboration. 
Yuna holds an MS in Instructional Design and Technology from Walden University, and an MS in Electronic Engineering Technology from Arizona State University. 


Margaret Wells has over 12 years of experience in the higher education industry with instructional design, training, and project management in various roles. She spent the last five years in a corporate learning and development department as an eLearning Developer, working with project teams, a learning management system and a variety of eLearning software applications to produce online training. In her current role as a Sr. Instructional Designer at ASU Online, she partners with faculty/subject matter experts to create high-quality continuing education courses with performance-based objectives. Maggie earned a Master’s degree in adult education and training and a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from University of Phoenix.
